Queen breeding is a complicated work in beekeeping production. It is necessary to use a breeding box to separate the breeding group. In some seasons, the breeding of the queen affects the reproduction and collection of the production group. After the new queen is bred and spawned, she must intervene in the production group, and the breeding group must be combined. The author uses practical multifunctional beehives to raise queen, which reduces the intermediate links such as grouping, changing queen and swarming.

Breeding queen in spring

  • 1. Nest box: the queen of group breeding put a single yarn cover on the nest box, and then put half of the cloth and the relay box. When the colony potential of the queen in the relay box reaches more than 8 frames, put a single yarn cover on the first relay box and then put a cloth cover on the second relay box. Both the nest and the queen in the relay box can put a spacer plate in the relay box to breed a double queen.
  • 2. Before the honey flow period, when the auxiliary honey source is poor (supplementary feed is required), the queen shall be reared with double yarn covers on the nest box, and the second relay box shall be placed on the crown table: when the auxiliary honey source is good (the feed is slightly surplus), the queen shall be reared with single yarn covers on the nest box, and the crown table shall be placed on the second relay box, or the partition plate shall be removed while the second relay box is placed on the crown table, and the egg laying queen shall be imprisoned in the crown cage, and the newspaper shall be placed on the crown cover, When the honey source is better, put the yarn cover on the first relay box, and the second relay box raises the queen.
  • 3. During the period of honey flow, the queen is not separated from the queen, and the queen is not imprisoned. The second relay box is placed on the queen's platform.
  • 4. After the end of the honey flow period, the queen breeding in the bee field is the same as that before the honey flow period. There are two kinds of queen rearing in the transferred bee field: transferring back to the original field or transferring to a new honey source field. The former is the same as that in the fixed bee field. If it is necessary to increase the number of groups for queen rearing, the packaging shall be removed on the day of transferring back to the original field, and the double king group that has successfully mated in the honey flow period shall be divided into single queen groups, and then the stronger single queen group shall be divided into one-third groups and placed on the nest box of the new and old queen groups. The latter is the same as the former.
  • 5. The autumn breeding season is the continuation period of the colony strength and the most productive period of the bee colony. It can verify and observe the colony strength and the advantages and disadvantages of the queen bee, which is conducive to cultivating the new queen. When the honey source is poor, put a double yarn cover on the nest box. When the honey source is good and the group potential is strong, put the yarn cover on the first relay box (transfer to the ground) or the second relay box (fixed to the ground), and place the crown on the second or third relay box.

Precautions for queen breeding

  • 1. Precautions for breeding queen in spring: the auxiliary honey source is poor in spring. During breeding queen, if the feed in the nest cannot meet the needs of the breeding group, it is necessary to add enough honey spleen or feed enough in advance to avoid feeding bees to interfere with the breeding queen group. The colony potential of the nest box should reach 6-7 frames of bees, and the colony potential should not exceed 8 frames of bees during the breeding period, so as to prevent the breeding colony from generating the fever of dividing bees and the trouble of managing the colony. In addition, the queen breeding group should be scattered as much as possible, and the increase in density or the orderly rowing will reduce the success rate of queen breeding.
  • 2. Breeding the queen in the early stage of honey flow: promote the new queen to lay eggs. In the early stage of honey source, the breeding of the queen is completed in the honey flow (the end time of honey source, the time of the introduction of the peak king and the time of the transfer shall be unified in the bee field). The honey flow period shall be at least 12 days, so that the queen can be placed and the queen can be introduced. In the end of the period, the peak colony can not produce bee fever, that is, the bee collection and the laying of the queen are normal. The breeding and grouping of the transferred bees should be carried out on the same day or in the morning of the next day (preferably the same day) after they are transferred back to the original site or transferred to the new site, because after two days, the bees re recognize their nests and fly, and some bees in the new colony return to their original nests, which is not conducive to the breeding of the separated bees and the rapid proliferation and development of the new colony.
  • 3. During the honey flow period, the production group opens the temporary nest door in the relay box, and the bees are used to entering and leaving the nest door. The door of the nest box is wide open, and there are many bees in and out, and the smell of the group is also large. When the mating queen bee and the bee return to the nest and approach the nest door, they mainly rely on the swarm smell and color to identify. In addition, when the virgin king comes out of the nest for mating, the bees also actively go out of the nest to collect and follow the mating king to emit group odor, which plays a role in guiding the mating queen to return to the nest. Even if the nest door is opened for more than ten days, and the nest door is relatively large, the virgin king can easily enter the nest box by mistake. When collecting bees and test flying bees return to the nest, they must pass through the nest box with the queen. Once there are abnormal conditions inside and outside the nest, the bees are likely to be hostile to the virgin queen or besieged, which will lead to the failure of breeding the queen.
  • 4. During the honey flow period, the group breeding queen is produced, and the spawning queen is separated from the queen only by the king plate. In addition, there is no need to adjust the nest spleen for the king rearing group with the yarn cover on the nest box of the production group. The queen rearing group with the yarn cover should be added with the yarn cover in the morning of the first day, and the queen stage should be placed in the afternoon or the morning of the second day, so that the bees who have recognized the nest and tested fly in the nest box can return to the relay box for a few hours before the queen comes out to prevent the queen from being surrounded. The door of the male hive shall be temporarily closed to prevent the collusion of bees from affecting the breeding of the queen.

To sum up, the time and method of cultivating queen should be reasonably arranged according to the local climate, honey source conditions, the number of king in the field and the labor intensity of each season. For example, the honey source period of Tilia amurensis in Northeast China is more than 20 days. At the initial stage of the honey source, the insect breeding platform can be moved and qualified Wangtai can be bred. During the peak period of honey flow, the production colony will be moved. During the period when the queen is introduced and mating, there will be no encirclement of the queen. In the middle and late period of honey flow, it is necessary to expand the nest. When the queen lays eggs in large numbers, the new Queen also begins to lay eggs. In this way, it does not affect honey collection, nor does it need to separate queen breeding groups, and it also cultivates queen bees that meet the production needs of the whole year for autumn breeding and next spring breeding.
