Honey and pollen have been used as medicine for nearly 100 years, so what are their health benefits?
First of all, what is honey? And what does it do?
Bee pollen is the pollen that is stored and fermented in the hive. Bee pollen is the pollen that is stored and fermented in the hive. The original honey is made up of bee pollen, propolis and some antioxidants.
Hundreds of years ago, the ancient Egyptians offered honey to their gods. Also, Greek, Roman and Chinese cultures used honey to treat fevers, wounds and stomach problems. Today, honey is used as a food additive or nutritional supplement.
So what is processed honey like?
Honey producers pasteurize the raw honey before selling it. This process of heating the honey at high temperatures kills yeast cells and increases its shelf life. As a result, many store-bought honey lacks nutritional value.
Of course, no matter how it's processed, honey still contains healthy compounds like vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acids. Although raw honey contains 16 grams of sugar per tablespoon, studies show it is still a healthier alternative to table sugar.
So what are the pharmacological effects of honey?
- 1, the impact on the immune system: 5% linden honey and hybrid nectar can significantly increase the number of antibody secreting cells, enhance humoral immune function.
- 2. Anti-tumor effect: Honey has moderate anti-tumor and significant anti-tumor metastasis effect. Honey also enhanced the antitumor efficacy of cyclophosphamide and 5-fluorouracil and reduced their toxic effects.
- 3. Influence on glucose metabolism: oral or intravenous injection can rapidly promote the formation of glycogen in the body, and is not easy to cause hyperglycemia.
- 4, antiviral microbial effect: staphylococcus, Escherichia coli, pseudomonas aeruginosa, proteus, dysentery bacillus and other bacteria with inhibition and killing effect. Its bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects are related to honey concentration, low concentration has bacteriostatic effect, high concentration has bactericidal effect.
Remember, bee pollen and honey are not recommended if you have any kind of allergy to bees. You should also be wary of products that are labeled "pure honey" or claim to be locally sourced -- unless the label says "raw honey," these products are likely to have been pasteurized.
Whether you buy raw or store-bought honey, keep in mind that different brands and products have different flavors and expiration dates. If you're considering incorporating honey or bee pollen into your daily routine, remember to talk to your doctor before changing your diet.
