The process of installing lang's beehive

Assembling a Langstroth beehive body is simple if you keep those two things in mind:

1. Make sure your handles face outwards. Box joints prevent dislocation. But they won't stop you from going in the wrong direction. (I know, because I've done it.)

2. Make sure your hives are "square." Square means all the angles are 90 degrees. (Yes, high school geometry class may be more important than you realize).

There is great disagreement about the best way to assemble the hive body. First, we'll discuss the main options and then discuss some of the differences.

Step 1. Select fixed method.

The type of tools you need depends on whether you plan on using nails, screws, or nailing your hives. Nails are the cheapest. If you need to buy tools, the additional cost of screws or staples can add up.

Step 2. Collect your equipment.

Collect your box parts, fasteners, tools and supplies at one convenient workstation.

We saw youtubers assembling hives on the floor. Don't do that. Use a workbench or other stable, flat surface on which you can stand.

Step 3. Apply the glue to the joint of the box (or not) and squeeze the sides together.

Align the sides of the box. Make sure the handles face outwards. (Trust me, mistakes are easier to deal with than you think.)

Apply glue to the box joints on the adjacent sides and squeeze them together. Hit it tight with the mallet.

Continue adding all the edges around the box.

Step 4. Drive fasteners. Remove clamp and check periodically for corners.

Work around the box and hammer your nails, screws, or nails into each box joint. Once you've secured one or two joints to each corner, you can remove the clamps.

Check corners as you go. If the Angle is not square, put it back in place.

Step 5. Clean up excess glue and set the box aside to allow the glue to dry. Then, move to the next box.

When you squeeze the seams together, the glue may squeeze out. Wipe the excess off with a damp cloth.

Once the glue has dried, it's time to paint your box before your hive is installed.

Your hives are exposed to wind and rain all year round. The main reason to paint beehive shells is to protect them. You've invested a lot of money and time in these hives, so you want them to last as long as possible.
